Sad News: A massive Rock Python was Killed in FUTA.

The true story behind the death of this snake that most people don’t know especially Futarian.

As a curious wildlife conservationist, I was exploring the Futa wildlife park with my friends and then went in deep into the park. On my way out, I was approached by one of the park’s coordinator and he rebuked me from going through the particular direction I was coming from again. Then I asked why, and he told me this story which I was thinking was a myth.

He said Futa had 2 African rock Python snakes a long time ago, but due to poor management then, one died, and the skin is at the Futa wildlife museum till now, but the other snake escaped from the enclosure and ever since it was not seen.

Around a decade ago, while one of the female lecturer was roaming the Futa wildlife park then came across this particular snake, immediately she ran away and went to call 5 sheriffs to capture this particular snake but when the sheriffs got there, the massiveness of this snake made them took off as well. Ever since the snake has not been seen again but he was sure that the snake was not far from the park.

I was really surprised and excited by the story, which prompted me to study more about snake for a year, I learn snake handling through YouTube videos, I’ve caught/rescued and released about 4 snakes back to the wild around my place then. I got connected with a lot of snake handlers around the world just to learn about snake, I’ve ask several people information about the particular snake. The amazing piece about this, is that one of my friend’s dad told him he has seen this snake before during the time he was still an undergraduate over 20 years ago.

Surprisingly this morning (5th of November, 2019), I woke up just to find the body of the snake I’ve been excited and patiently waiting to see all this years laying on the ground lifeless on my phone.

It got me thinking, if we had people brave enough to protect the snake from being killed last night, successfully captured and placed in a safe place where people can visit to view the amazing sight of the massive snake before returning to the wild… Just imagine!!!…

Annual Celebration: Happy World Snake Day 2019

Despite their unwarranted reputation, snakes are critically important animals for our world. Snakes maintain balance in the food web and therefore keep ecosystems healthy. They provide humans an ecological service by controlling pest populations.

Snake handling Education

Why snakes should be protected?

Snakes are protected under the Nature Conservation Act 1992. It is an offence to kill, injure or take snakes from the wild. … Without them, the numbers of prey species would increase to unnatural levels and the predators that eat snakes would struggle to find food.

Happy World Snake Day

What benefits do snakes provide?

They can keep pests, such as rats and mice, in check. And some species that are harmless to people prey on poisonous snakes, reducing the chance of a deadly encounter. Snakes can be useful in controlling rat populations. In some parts of the world, the benefits of snakes are now being recognized.

What happens if snakes go extinct?

If one species disappears, the entire ecosystem in which it once lived will suffer. It may not suffer long if the species can quickly adapt. But often, that doesn’t happen. Many ecosystems, especially swamps and deserts, are extremely delicate, and the loss of snakes could potentially destroy the foodweb as a whole.

How are snakes important?

Snakes make up a significant proportion of the middle-order predators that keep our natural ecosystems working. Without them the numbers of prey species would increase to unnatural levels and the predators that eat snakes struggle to find food. The feeding habits of snakes act as a natural form of pest control.

How can we save endangered snakes?

Things We Should All Do To Protect Endangered Species
1. Educate your family about endangered species in your area. …
2. Recycle and buy sustainable products. …
3. Reduce your water consumption. …
4. Reduce your personal footprint. …
5. Do not buy plastic products. …
6. Pressure your civil servants. …
7. Volunteer your time to protect the wildlife in your area.

Crude Facts: Elephant extinction in Africa would ‘speed up climate crisis by letting more greenhouse gases escape’

Wiping out all of Africa’s elephants could accelerate Earth’s climate crisis by allowing 7 per cent more damaging greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, scientists say.

But conserving forest elephants may reverse the trend, providing a service worth $43bn (£34.3bn) in storing carbon, the academics found.

The research, published in Nature Geoscience, shows that the presence of the animals leads to higher numbers of large trees that better capture greenhouse gas, but without elephants, smaller trees less able to absorb carbon thrive.

The extinction of forest elephants could lead to a 7 per cent drop in “aboveground biomass” – the weight of trees including branches and foliage – in western and central African rainforests.

This would mean an extra 3 billion tonnes of harmful carbon entering the atmosphere, Fabio Berzaghi, the lead researcher, told The Independent.

Large herbivores are known to be vital in spreading seeds, but until now ways in which elephants affect rainforests have been something of a mystery.

But the study found that while grazing in the Congo and elsewhere, the animals clear away smaller vegetation, which over time leads to fewer but larger hard-wood trees, which live longer and lock away more carbon than soft-wood ones.

Earlier this month, Swiss scientists reported that planting billions of acres of trees in an area the size of the US could be the “most effective solution to climate change to date”.

Using model simulations, the scientists from the Laboratory of Climate and Environment Sciences in France said one animal for every square km increases forest biomass by 60 tonnes per hectare (0.01 square kilometres).

Mr Berzaghi and his colleagues found that when elephants thin out forests, eating those that are less than 30cm wide, there is less competition among the vegetation for light, water and space, which allows fewer and larger trees – and with a higher wood density – to emerge, increasing amounts of carbon stored.

The total leaf area – or canopy cover – was about 70 per cent more in areas with elephants than those without, so only about half the natural light reached the ground, inhibiting growth of small trees.

The research suggests elephants have an important role in shaping the structure of African forests.

“We speculate that the presence of forest elephants may have shaped the structure of Africa’s rainforests, which probably plays an important role in differentiating them from Amazonian rainforests,” the paper said.

The projected drop of about 7 per cent of carbon stocks “is more than the estimated loss in tropical America and Africa due to the disappearance of large-seeded trees and their dispersers”.

The report added: “Elephant conservation may reverse this trend, which would represent a carbon storage service of US$43bn at a conservative carbon stock price.

“The value of the ecosystem services provided by the forest elephant and other megaherbivores should be reassessed in relation to carbon storage policy, forest management and conservation.”

SAD STORY ABOUT A LOYAL DOG

A dog was so loyal to a woman so much she could leave her baby with him and go out for a few races quickly. She always returns to find the child deeply asleep with the dog. One day something tragic happened.
The woman as usual, left the baby in the hands of this faithful dog and went shopping.
When she came back, she discovered a horrible scene, and there was a total mess. The baby wasn’t in his crib, his diapers and his clothes in shreds, with blood stains all over the bedroom. In Shock, the frightened woman started looking for the baby. Suddenly she saw the faithful dog emerging under the bed, covered in blood from everywhere licking her mouth as if he had just finished a delicious meal.

The woman was convinced that the dog had eaten her baby. Without much thought, she beat the dog to death with a wood. Then she continued research to at least find a part of her child’s body. Soon she lives another scene. Behind the bed was the well-shaped baby who was naked and had fun on the carpet. Under the bed the woman discovers the body of a snake that has been torn apart. It was a fierce battle between the snake and the dog. The dog fought to protect the baby against the ravenous snake. It was too late for her now to make amends because, in her impatience and anger, she had killed the faithful dog.

How often did we judge people with hard words and spread lies about them before we had time to assess the situation?
For anyone who reads this, I pray that God gives us grace to avoid unconditional mistakes in our lives…
